What is the latest news on AMD Curve Optimizer?

A new feature named AMD Curve Optimizer is about to be released with an AGESA firmware update, as mentioned by AMD at the beginning of December. The new add-on will be available with the AGESA 1.1.0.0 Patch D and will be necessarily added with AMD 400 and 500 line-up motherboards, starting from next month.

In light of this fact, MSI is still looking to experiment with the newest tool and concisely share its result.

A news source, Wccftech, has disclosed some of those test results, conducted at MSI Headquarters, and it reflects Curve Optimizer’s workability on the B450 Tomahawk motherboards, which are furnished with the Ryzen 9 5900X CPU containing Zen-3 architecture.

To enable the feature, one will need BIOS accessibility instead of AMD Ryzen Master Software as it requires delicate application into the motherboard.

The AMD Curve Optimizer feature is likely to reduce power consumption and, by doing so, drastically increase the optimal achievable frequency by utilizing the unused power. It will open up new ways of undervolting and lets you adjust the frequency curve and voltage.

MSI has reported that in Cinebnech R20 single-threaded benchmark, the frequency was observed to be increased by 50 MHz, 1.6% escalation in performance. On the other hand, the multi-thread benchmark witnessed a 2% escalation as the frequency increased by 100 MHz.

One of the most crucial factors was the reduction of the temperature by 4°C by enabling and disabling the Curve Optimizer feature. MSI set “15” numerical value for their said new feature for examining, and upon increasing the value to “30,” results in the system becoming unstable.

MSI has given the green light that the MSI B450 MAX and other motherboards will receive the AGESA firmware update in few days and later next year, respectively.

Sources: Videocardz, MSI is ready to demonstrate the AMD Curve Optimizer feature, 10th February 2021.
