Microsoft recently announced the x64 app emulation support is coming for Windows with ARM devices. Windows with ARM devices able to run both 64-bit ARM and 32-bit ARM apps. But currently, the emulation is available only for x86 (32-bit) apps.
For example, Microsoft Surface Pro X laptop cant run many 64-bit Windows 10 apps. ARM recently launched its Neoverse server processors
With the 64-bit x64 emulation support, ARM-based Windows devices will able to run many modern apps, which are not available in 32-bit.
Microsoft said 64-bit emulation will available for all windows with ARM devices including devices with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. But emulated apps cant deliver a similar performance compared to native apps.
Microsoft announced the 64-bit emulation feature will first available for the users of a program named Windows Insider in the coming November.
The company also said Microsoft and Qualcomm are going for a collaboration to improve the compatibility of apps on windows 10 with ARM PCs. After that announcement, there is a chance for releasing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon-based a new Microsoft Surface Pro X laptop.
Microsoft also claimed they will make a faster Microsoft Edge browser, which will use very less battery and well optimized for ARM devices with Windows 10.
