What is the news about “Linux Cyberpunk 2077”?
Although Cyberpunk 2077 will support DirectX 12 and Vulkan APIs, it has been reported that Vulkan APIs are only conserved for a cloud-gaming platform, Google Stadia. Currently, developers from Valve are working tirelessly to build on their Proton Software though which Microsoft DirectX games can be played on Linux OSs using Steam.
CD Projekt Red’s game is facing several graphics issues while running naturally on Microsoft Windows. But making it playable through Proton Sofware only contributes to more graphical errors.
ProtonDB, which is a database that is driven by a community devoted to the software, has said that Cyberpunk 2077 has several graphics and audio issues. Still, it depends on the hardware that will determine if the anticipated-title is playable or not.
What do the users say about “Linux Cyberpunk 2077”?
Several users have reported that using GeForce 455 drivers, Cyberpunk 2077 can be played on NVIDIA hardware. Whereas to support the game, Valve has released an update to their Proton software only for Radeon graphics cards.
Different users complained about blocky shadows or missing textures, and for some, the game would even begin. To sum up, the game is full of bugs and has not been optimized. Few lucky gamers could run it on Linux, but chances are the game won’t even run at all or offer poor performance.
The wait is there to see if Linux Cyberpunk 2077 will produce an excellent experience for avid gamers. Looking at other running Microsoft Windows games on Linux, a judgment of better quality and the future possibility of game playability can be made.
Proton needs to offer improved compatibility with their graphics card, and other GPU makers need to enhance their Linux drivers.
