According to a 3D News source, AMD is expected to launch its CDNA based graphics accelerator AMD Instinct MI100 sooner than anticipated, probably on the eve of 16th November. This card is long due since AMD’s official presentation in July.
AMD Radeon Instinct MI100This is a CDNA based Graphics accelerator, specially made for data centers, not for PC gamers. This card will have 7680 x2 Cores based on a 7nm lithography. It will have 120 Computing Units. Detailed Spec is below.
Nvidia might be launching the graphics accelerator on 16th November. Although this is not an official launch date, one reveals in a corporate identity book suggests so. All in all, this HBM2 Memory based card will be launched within this year of 2020 itself.
This card is based on AMD’s CDNA series, specifically made for data centers and supercomputers. AMD is making cards for a particular purpose for the last two years – like Radeon 6000 is for the RDNA series gaming graphics card.
For a theoretical benchmarking, this might give a Pixel Rate of around 85.38 GPixel/s, Texture Rate of 640.3 GTexel/s, and FP16 (half) performance of 81.96 TFLOPS (4:1).
The rated TDP of this card is 300 Watt to require a System with at least 700 Watt power supply capability. AMD Radeon Instinct MI100 is a dual-slot card, which uses two eight-pin connectors. It has an inbuilt cooling solution but no display out port since this is not designed for gaming or PC support.
The AMD Radeon Instinct MI100 supports PCI Express 4.0 x16 interface. This supports a 40 PCIE lanes in the motherboard, which will have a distinct advantage for speedy computing and heavy workloads.
AMD Radeon Instinct MI100 Price will be south of $999, as predicted from AMD’s presentation in July. But there is no official announcement from AMD yet. In any case, this card will be cheaper than Nvidia Geforce RTX, the same series graphics cards.
AMD Radeon Instinct MI100 is a lot faster than Nvidia Ampere A100 GPU, according to a recent study in FP32 workloads. AMD Radeon Instinct MI100This will have the latest 7nm architecture and PCI express 4.0 Supports, so expected to work far better than the previous AMD Instinct MI50 Series.
Since this is a CDNA architecture-based accelerator, it will be used in data centers in GPU-based computing like machine learning, artificial intelligence, and in other industries where colossal processing power is required, like oil gas, etc.
